Capacity building of civil and military investigators and prosecutors in Nigeria

The Wayamo Foundation organised a training workshop for military investigators, prosecutors and legal practitioners in Abuja from 24-25 May 2021. The Abuja workshop followed a hybrid model, with participants attending in person, and the majority of the experts -both international and Nigerian- joining the event via Zoom.
In previous Wayamo workshops, representatives of the Nigerian Navy, Army and Air Force discussed the possibility of setting up a highly specialised unit of military investigators and prosecutors, who would be specifically trained to investigate and prosecute alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity, both of which potentially fall under the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Over the coming months, Wayamo will therefore be drawing up and implementing tailor-made capacity-building programmes for members of the proposed Serious Crimes Response Team (SCRT).
