Step inside, as Chairperson Mohamed Chande Othman sits down with Wayamo and outlines how the United Nations Independent International Fact-Finding Mission for the Sudan (IIFFM) does its work.
This in-depth interview explores how the mission investigates alleged human rights violations and international crimes amidst Sudan’s ongoing conflict. Learn about the challenges the investigators face—from limited access to the country, resource constraints, and time pressures, to how they cooperate with civil society, neighbouring countries, and international accountability mechanisms.
Through powerful questions and honest answers, this video sheds light on the scope of the IIFFM’s mandate, the realities on the ground, and the crucial role of refugees and civil society in building a path toward justice and accountability.
The interview took place on the sidelines of February 2025 Wayamo Foundation symposium on the subject of “Advancing accountability for international crimes in Africa” held at Nairobi’s Aga Khan University which focused on identifying appropriate and creative means and mechanisms to advance accountability for international crimes. Mohamed Chande Othman, spoke on the first panel along with experts from the International Criminal Court and the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) focusing on identifying pathways to accountability in Sudan through regional and international human rights investigative mechanisms and international courts.
