Human rights violations are being committed on a daily basis in Sudan. Hence the need for quick and immediate action to enhance the capabilities of existing monitoring mechanisms. States and communities affected by periods of dictatorship, political violence and atrocity are faced with many
options to address violations of human rights. Each time these tools – truth commissions, reparations, war crimes tribunals, evidence-collection and -preservation mechanisms, amnesties, and the like – are implemented, the world learns more about how they can be designed and tailored to address
violations.
