High level retreat and strategic Network meeting in Nairobi
In order to help enhance and build the capacity of East African investigators and prosecutors to address trafficking crimes, the Wayamo Foundation organised a high-level retreat on 29 July for the heads of their anti-trafficking units of Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania and the countries of the Horn of Africa.
On 30 July Wayamo organised a strategic meeting of the recently established “Network of Heads of Public Prosecutions and Criminal Investigations in the East African Region” (“East Africa Network”). The objective of the Network is to strengthen the criminal justice sector in East Africa by ensuring effective cross-border investigation and prosecution of complex crimes, and bolstering inter-agency collaboration at a national and regional level in manner that is consistent with the rule of law. The strategic meeting will have a presentation by an anti-trafficking expert on the challenges of combating trafficking and migrant smuggling in East Africa.
